Les différences de sexe et de genre sont souvent négligées dans la conception de projets de recherche, leur mise en œuvre et la rédaction des rapports scientifiques, ainsi que dans la communication scientifique en général. Cet omission limite la possibilité de généraliser les résultats de la recherche et leur applicabilité à la pratique clinique, en particulier pour les femmes mais aussi pour les hommes.
