Gender- und geschlechtsspezifische Unterschiede werden beim Design von Forschungsprojekten, bei deren Durchführung und bei der wissenschaftlichen Berichterstattung sowie bei der wissenschaftlichen Kommunikation im Allgemeinen oft nicht berücksichtigt. Dieses Missachten schränkt die Möglichkeit der Verallgemeinerung von Forschungsergebnissen und deren Anwendbarkeit in der klinischen Praxis ein, insbesondere für Frauen, aber auch für Männer.
